Military Makeover with Montel Lynn, MA Set Photography
BOSTON FILM & TELEVISION SET PHOTOGRAPHER
Photographing subject matter outside your wheelhouse is a great way to flex creative muscles and challenge your way of seeing. As someone who photographs primarily portraits, weddings, and events, it’s important to push brand boundaries and nourish the eye with something new. This summer, Military Makeover with Montel invited me to be their on-location set photographer during the filming of a new season in Lynn, MA. Hosted by Montel Williams, the show rewards deserving veterans from all over the country with a home renovation that would otherwise be outside their reach. This season, the wonderful Carmody family was selected, and I am beyond grateful to have been part of this experience!
Though the subject matter differs from my usual fare, the objective is the same: to tell the story of what I’m observing in an interesting and artful way. Over a few days, I would document the home makeover from start to finish: from demolition, renovation, and finally the Carmody family’s exciting return for the big reveal of their remodeled home. In many ways, this experience was very much like a wedding day: photographing the narrative with minimal intrusion while using composition and existing natural light to frame the action candidly and aesthetically.
Best of all I had the chance to contribute to an effort centered on teamwork, cooperation, and giving back. From the contractors, neighbors, and community volunteers, everyone served selflessly and the energy was always positive.
Thank you again, Brandstar, for having me onboard. Check out the Carmody family on Lifetime TV. Enjoy!
