North Hampton State Beach Baby Portrait Session
NORTH HAMPTON BABY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER
Party of one! Mom and dad decided to stay on the sidelines for this session, opting instead to let their little eight-month old girl enjoy the spotlight on her own! We all met very early in the morning at North Hampton State Beach, across from the Beach Plum restaurant, and enjoyed having the whole stretch of beach for ourselves. Aside from there being no crowds on the sand, the other big benefit of an early morning session at the beach is working with a softer, gentler light. As an added bonus, there was a misty cloud cover, treating us to that lovely, diffuse illumination that always makes for great outdoor natural light portraits.
When considering having solo pictures taken of your little one, you’ll want to have a sense of how comfortable they are with you stepping away in the presence of a stranger. For this session, mom and dad were always just out of frame and their little girl did just fine, but some toddlers would prefer to cling to their parents rather than sitting alone. A familiar blanket or toy can help your baby feel safe and be willing to anchor in place on their own. I’ll always have some colorful distractions on hand to help your baby feel at ease not only with me, but the camera. Encouraging babies to interact with their environment — in this case, play with sea shells, crawl in the sand — keeps them from losing interest and creates opportunities to capture their sense of discovery and play. A good meal and nap before the session, along with the right clothes for the weather, also go a long way to making a session successful.
Enjoy the pictures, and I look forward to working with you and your family!
