ATKINSON COMMON SENIOR PORTRAIT SESSION PHOTOGRAPHER

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Probably the last thing you want this time of year is more of the white stuff, but what a great backdrop it made for during this lovely senior portrait session in Newburyport’s Atkinson Common. When H. and her mom initially booked this session, I offered up a few suggestions for location, and they decided on Atkinson. What’s especially pretty about the park is its assorted pathways that meander through a variety of gardens and architectural sights, such as a footbridge, gazebo, and a historical stone tower. But without all the flowers and foliage in bloom (and those pathways buried under a few inches of snow), what opportunities would the park be able to provide?

I’d say something totally unique! Not only did we have the beautiful contrast between warm sun and cool snow, but the one tree that was in bloom hardly disappointed with its firery display of red berries. Sure, there was a chill in the air, but H. played it up perfectly — clasping her hands here and there to keep warm and cozying up in her smart choice of fur coat. H. even let her brother join in on a few shots, which I think will make these senior portraits all the more memorable for her in years to come.

One technical note for those shooting outside in winter: bring extra batteries for your camera. Batteries deplete much faster in colder weather, so always have a handful on deck when shooting outdoors this time of year!

Great job, H., and best wishes to you in your senior year!
